As I was studying this morning, my mind drifted to times when I would take my nephews out to spend time with them. Since I live in a different state, I always treasure the times that I get to see them and take them out shopping for their birthdays. I call these times our “date” and they seem to enjoy it. While we are out, I constantly keep my eye on them. Whether we are walking through the parking lot or in a store, I never let them out of my sight. Why do I feel that it is necessary to do this? I want to protect them. Not only do I want to make sure they do not hurt themselves in some way, shape, or form, I also want to make sure that no one else hurts or harms them. In fact, I have even found myself keeping an eye on another child in the store who appears to be alone. I keep my eye on that child until I know there is an adult that is with them. Maybe it is a maternal thing, but whatever it is, it’s instinctive.
Almost every time I come home for Christmas, I take my nephews out shopping. Not to buy for them but to watch and see the items they say they want or like. I never purchase those items at that moment, and I usually try to direct their attention elsewhere, however, I am making a mental note of the item that made their eyes light up. Why do I do this? I want to provide for them. I love seeing their faces light up when they open something they wanted, but weren’t able to get the day we went shopping.
Psalm 32:8 says, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.” I introduced the story about my nephews because I wanted to create a word picture. Did you know that God promises to teach you, instruct you, and keep His eye on you? Just as we keep an eye on our children, our nephews (and nieces), and our loved ones, God keeps His eye on you. He guides you and watches over you in order to protect you and to provide for you.
If you have trouble believing this, ask Him to make Himself known to you. Ask Him to help you to become aware of His protection and His provision. His love is unconditional and He never fails. If we are going to have Someone watching over us, then why not have it be Someone who is perfect in all of His ways? Become aware of His love, His protection, and His provision today. I want to hear your story of His love, provision, and/or protection.
