Wellness Tip: Stay Financially Afloat For Christmas & Help Others Out.
As we head into the Christmas season, some of us extend our Christmas for several months by charging things we cannot afford, on credit cards that are already carrying balances. I would consider myself a “giver.” Those who know me know that I would give the shirt off of my back if someone needed it. I love to give! I love to help! I love to surprise people with things that I know they would love! So, I am writing to myself as well as to my followers, and to anyone else that comes across this blog.
I am not suggesting that we give up giving gifts for Christmas. I simply want to make some simple suggestions. First, write a list of family and friends that you want to purchase a gift for. Second, write down the dollar amount that you want to spend on each individual or family member. Third, STICK to the budget no matter what! So, what if you have budgeted $20.00 for your sister. Then you find the most perfect gift of all time for her, BUT it’s $30.00! Do you walk away? If you are like me, when I find something perfect, it’s difficult to walk away from it. So, one alternative solution is to buy the gift for your sister, BUT somewhere in your budget, you have to deduct the $10.00 from other budgeted gifts. Or, you can eliminate getting a gift for a person that you were on the fence about buying a gift for in the first place.
This year I want to emphasize getting gifts from small businesses. This is a mental shift because I love black Friday deals and major department stores or online deals for well-known websites. As a small business owner myself, I want to purchase items through small businesses and help other families have a better Christmas at the same time! A “two for the price of one” deal! I love a good deal!
There are a couple websites that I would like to draw your attention to. (First, let me say, that I will not receive any kind of compensation from recommending the first two websites). The first website is www.etsy.com. This website is made up of single moms, young adults, and entrepreneurs that have that wonderful gene of creativity. They create wonderful things and sell them online. Many of them can even personalize their items. Here are a couple that I would recommend.
Salt & Light Jewelry – Prophetic Christian Jewelry. This is my sis-in-love’s (sister-in-law’s) website. She is a wonderful wife, mother of the three most handsome boys I know, and an entrepreneur. Ohhh… did I mention she also home schools all three boys? (Yeah, I think she has a “super power” that we don’t know about)! Anyway, here is an opportunity to purchase some amazing one-of-a-kind jewelry for a loved one, and bless the entrepreneur!
The Bird Bags. This is a friend of a friend. All of the items are handmade and of good quality. Again, you can bless a loved one and the entrepreneur!
Of course, I would have to include this amazing workbook from an entrepreneur! This is from my own website, because I am an entrepreneur (smile). Do you know someone who is struggling to find their purpose in life? Do you know anyone who needs to understand their value in life? Then this is the book for them! Help out an entrepreneur and change your loved one’s life forever.
There are also other gift ideas like your local craft fairs or Holiday festivals. A few months ago, I found a unique gift for a friend’s birthday at a downtown festival. One-of-a-kind items are rare and special just like your loved ones! Shop around for small business owners and help them out this Christmas. If you are a small business owner, feel free to post your website in the comments below!
